About Excel Laser Vision Institute - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Have many people have had LASIK surgery?
According to recent studies, more than 5,000,000 Americans have had LASIK procedures to assist in helping them have better vision.  This number continues to increase substantially every year as individuals become more educated about how safe and effective LASIK surgery is for your eyes and how it can free them from the hassle of glasses or contact lenses.

2. What are the risks of Lasik Surgery?
Complications from LASIK surgery are quiet rare. Patients experience virtually no discomfort during a LASIK Vision Correction procedure. Anesthesia is used to numb the eye prior to the procedure and no injections are necessary. Immediately after the laser eye treatment, some patients have reported some minor discomfort, described as having an eyelash or a dry contact lens in their eye. Experienced LASIK surgeons report less than a 1% complication rate in LASIK surgeries

3. Will I have any long-term effects following my Laser Eye Surgery?
No long-term side effects of the laser eye surgery procedure have been discovered. The technique is based on keratomileusis. Keratomileusis simply means a surgical improvement of the focusing power of the eye performed by lifting the front surface

4. Am I a good candidate for LASIK?
Not everybody is a good candidate for LASIK, which is why all reputable LASIK Surgeons run a variety of tests of potential patients before approving them for LASIK surgery.  By using FDA approved pre-operative technology for pre-screening candidates, this dramatically decreases the risk of complication to the patient. There are also temporary conditions that would prevent you from having LASIK, such as vision instability or pregnancy.  The best way to determine if you are a suitable candidate for lasik surgery is to schedule a free consultation at The Excel Laser Vision Institute by calling 1-866-923-9235.

5.  When will I be able to return to work?
The surgery itself is very brief.  It only takes a few minutes for each eye and the procedure is relatively painless. The next day individuals are astonished at how clearly they can see, and how quickly they can return to normal activities.  Commonly, patients who underwent LASIK surgery are able to return to work within 24 to 48 hours following their LASIK procedure.

6. What should I look for in choosing my LASIK surgeon?
The success of a laser eye surgery is based on the skills and experience of the surgeon more so than other surgical procedures. A qualified surgeon should meet the following basic criteria: board certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology, with advanced training in cornea and refractive surgery; skills and experience with a prominent ophthalmology practice, having performed thousands of LASIK and refractive surgical procedures; and the ability to help patients understand potential outcomes and complications.  Dr. Ferzaad Moosa of the Excel Laser Vision Institute is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and has performed over 60,000+ LASIK eye surgery procedures.

7. How long will the correction last?
LASIK is a permanent procedure.  However, an enhancement procedure may be required. Some patients' eyes may change throughout their lifetime, which can happen with glasses or contact lenses.

8. I have dry eyes. Can LASIK surgery help with that?
Commonly, patients who desire LASIK surgery have dry eyes. They have become intolerant of their contact lenses because the dryness makes them uncomfortable. In special cases of severely dry eyes, special punctal plugs that are placed in the lower eyelid tear ducts can be inserted with a positive improvement in dryness. These are easily removed in the office once the dryness resolves, or they can be left in place permanently to continue to help with dryness.

9. What is the success rate?
Approximately 95 percent of eyes treated with LASIK reach 20/40 or better vision with one procedure, which is the requirement for driving legally without correction. If a patient does not achieve his or her goal with one procedure, additional correction often improves their vision to a satisfactory level.

10. What is the cost of LASIK?
The cost varies depending upon the patient's prescription, but with financing options that are available, can be quite affordable — as low as a couple of dollars a day. These low-interest financing programs are available through The Excel Laser Vision Institute.
